A dive master is a professional who enables others to go underwater by leading recreational and organised dives. Dive master is the standard level for those who are responsible for guiding or supervising divers. Not everyone can become a dive master. But, it is possible to become a master dive instructor if your qualifications are right. These are just a few of the many benefits that come with becoming a diving master.

What is the job description for a dive master? A variety of tasks are involved, such as supervising customers, reviewing the risks of diving and delivering briefings to guide groups through a dive. The job description of a dive master is more varied. Diver masters may be responsible for many aspects of a dive shop including general operations and social media presence.

Diving instructors instruct and supervise scuba techniques, whether in open water or in swimming pools. They can also supervise and plan non-training activities such as navigation exercises. Open water diving instructors have the responsibility of leading students on tours, which includes the navigation exercise and the surface swimming portion. An instructor in diving may also oversee the certification of divers. The legal responsibility of dive instructors varies from country to country. However, in some countries, the diving instructor is exempt from legal responsibility when the dive instructor signs a waiver.

Certification requirements

You will need to complete a course if you want to become a divemaster. Divemaster courses cover topics like managing divers, managing dive sites and finding the flow. Additionally, candidates must have at least 60 logged dives. Divers may also be assisted by divemasters to improve their theory and skills.


Dive masters need to pass two parts of the exam in addition to taking classes. Candidats must score at most 75% for each section of the exam to pass it. Candidates will be using the PADI Instructor Handbook and the eRDPML for the exam. Students also need to prepare an emergency assistance plan and complete five waterskills exercises. The combined scores should not be less than fifteen. After completion of the course, divers must obtain certification.

Internships are required

There are many internships available to help you become a divemaster. You can help with other PADI courses or set up dive sites depending on your preferences. As a skill circuit assistant, you may be required. There will be a consistent pattern to your internship. A typical internship will last for eight weeks. In the same period, you may become an Advanced Open Water Diver. After that, you can become a Dive Guide or Divemaster after four to six weeks of training.

You may also be able to find a free internship for Divemasters in addition to paid internships. Although it is not the most ideal option, you will be able to spend a lot of time studying and getting advice from a divemaster. As part of your internship, you might be eligible for manuals, certifications, and equipment. Before enrolling for any Divemaster program, you should be aware of the requirements.
