What is an Aqua Lung? It is a self-contained open-circuit breathing apparatus. Aqua-Lungs was one of the first type of self-contained respiratory apparatus. It quickly gained commercial success and popularity around the world. This equipment is sometimes called a twin-hose regulator or demand valve. Jacques Cousteau and Emile Gagnan were some of the first to use aqua-lungs, and they became an instant hit in the world of diving.
Jacques Cousteau
Jacques Cousteau was the inventor of the first open-circuit self-contained underwater breathing device. Cousteau was inspired by a demand-valve system that provided compressed oxygen to divers when they breathe underwater. The Aqua lung, also known as the Aqua-Lung, opened the doors to diving for anyone who wanted to learn more about the sport. Aqua-Lung by Cousteau became the standard for divers around the world.
Emile Gagnan
Emile Gagnan, Jacques-Yves Cousteau, and Emile Gaunin invented the Aqua Lung in 1940. The Aqua Lung's unique design is a result of the designs of earlier diving helmets from the 19th century. It allows underwater divers access to compressed air through a mouthpiece. This mouthpiece releases the compressed air that is activated when the diver breathes. Gagnan later refined the device's regulator valve, which automatically feeds compressed air to the diver's mouthpiece in proportion to the amount of breath that the diver takes. This device was a breakthrough in the diving industry, allowing people to explore ocean depths for scientific observation, military use, and recreational purposes.

The first open circuit demand regulator
Cousteau developed the Aqua-Lung in 1944 and patented it in 1946. The Aqua-Lung has been a popular scuba regulator ever since. Gagnan, Cousteau's father-in-law, and his colleague Emile Gagnan, a French chemist, were also part of the team. They all knew Cousteau's research and decided to collaborate and create the Aqua-Lung regulator.
The BC1
The BC1 Aqua Lung, an advanced back inflation BC, is for commercial, military, or public safety divers. The rugged design of the BC1 Aqua Lung provides superior comfort, fit and stability. The user manual provides details on the different weights that can fit into each pouch. Two weight capacities are available for the BC1, one one chest and one one back. The BC1 can also be customized to fit individual needs by purchasing different weight pouches.
The Titan
Aqua Lung Titan regulators are lightweight and very portable. Its lightweight design makes it comfortable to use and its soft polyurethane cover provides a comfortable fit. Its light weight and robust design make it easy for extended diving. It is affordable because of its moderate price. The device comes with two stages, including a second stage that prevents unwanted freeflow.
The Mentor
Aqua lung Mentor, developed in conjunction with US Navy, is a regulator which replaces the old double hoses used for training divers for rebreather usage. While not yet available for sale to the general public, the Aqua lung is an excellent choice for professional divers looking for an alternative to the double hose regulators. Here are some things to keep in mind when buying the Aqua lung Mentor. To start, you must make sure it is calibrated.
